Sarratt is a village and civil parish in Hertfordshire’s Three Rivers District, about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Rickmansworth. Set on elevated ground near the Buckinghamshire border, it’s close to the River Chess, a chalk stream that begins just north of Chesham in the Chiltern Hills. This river flows through the valley west of Sarratt, known as Sarratt Bottom, before joining the River Colne in Rickmansworth. The river’s conditions are ideal for watercress farming, and Sarratt is home to Hertfordshire’s only commercial watercress farm. To the east, a dry valley lies just beyond the village.
